Bernard Hopkins wants to unify the light-heavyweight division as he gets ready to face Beibut Shumenov on April 19 in Washington, and boxing betting fans all over the world can’t wait to see the action.
Pay per head sportsbooks and boxing betting fans know that Hopkins is already the sport’s oldest-ever world champion at 49, and is not planning to give up his IBF light-heavyweight title anytime soon.
The American who makes great boxing odds will look to add Shumenov’s WBA belt to his own before defending the titles next year when he’s 50-years-old.
“I’ve got a chance to do something very special,” said the former middleweight titlist.
“I’m not done yet. That’s where I draw my motivation, my inspiration. I’m trying to make history write another book on me.
“I understand the significance of this. I want to defend the title at 50.
“I believe I’m the most feared fighter in the world despite my age. People know how dangerous I can be to a career.”
Pay per head sportsbooks know that Hopkins wants to have two titles to force a showdown for an undisputed crown with Haitian-born Canadian southpaw Adonis Stevenson, the current WBC champion, and boxing betting fans would really like to see if this clash will eventually happen.
“Stevenson is the motivation to beat Shumenov, not just to win but to perform well,” he added. “I can’t win and look old.”
Shumenov, 30-years-old and very well known with boxing betting fans and pay per head sportsbooks, makes his sixth defense of the title that he took in 2010 from Spain’s Gabriel Campillo, but the fighter admits that he never fought a rival like Hopkins.
“I know I have never faced anyone at Bernard’s level. It will be the hardest fight of my life but I’ll do everything possible and impossible to get this victory,” said the Kazakh.
