A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the Oakland Raiders will hire as offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, former Houston Texans quarterbacks coach, and many of the team’s football betting fans see this as a very good move.
Knapp will be replacing Al Saunders – the lone assistant from the staff of former coach Hue Jackson who still has a contract.
This would be Knapp’s second stint in charge of The Raiders’ offense. Football betting fans remember that in 2007 and 2008, he served under Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator.
As Tom Cable took over as interim coach after Kiffin was sacked in 2008, Cable took Knapp’s duties away from him. Football betting fans saw that in the only full season that Knapp had as offensive coordinator (2007), Oakland was No. 27 in total offense.
Dennis Allen, who only had one year of experience as a defensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos, was introduced on Monday as the Raiders’ head coach, and many fans wonder what impact this could have on the team.
On Monday, Allen said that he would like to run an aggressive and up-tempo offense, and he believes that he has many of the playmakers that are necessary to make it work. Football betting fans found out that Carson Palmer will return for his first full season with Oakland, and already talked to Allen and new general manager Reggie McKenzie about the franchise’s new direction.
“Carson Palmer is extremely excited about what we have going here,” Allen said. “He’s looking forward to the future and he’s excited about the opportunities here.”
On Monday, McKenzie said that Allen could keep some of the other assistants from Jackson’s tenure, but that most of the staff will be new, and many fans that like to make an NFL bet hope that these changes will benefit the team.
A source told Schefter that Denver did not give Oakland permission to interview Broncos linebackers coach Richard Smith for the Raider’s defensive coordinator job.
