Anthony Joshua, British Olympic gold medallist, said that there could be a fight for the world title getting underway next year, but pay per head bookmaking companies learned that right now he’s concentrated on his meeting with Kevin Johnson of the US taking place on the 31st of January.
The heavyweight fighter joined the professional ranks a bit over a year ago, and was able to win ten fights in a row.
“I feel, in the current heavyweight division, if I keep on progressing, it will edge me towards a world title fight,” said Joshua.
“I don’t know when the opportunity will present itself, so I’ve got to be prepared at all times.
“But I feel in 2015 – if I can do what I did this year in 2015 – I feel I’m definitely pushing towards that [world title] shot.”
However, Joshua – who’s very well known for his great talent in the ring – is not taking too lightly the threat that is posed by Johnson, and his fans believe that falling into complacency could be a very big mistake. Five years passed since the American fighter was able to go the distance against the world-famous Vitali Klitschko, but ended up losing four out of his last five meetings, which include wins over Tyson Fury as well as Dereck Chisora on points, in fights that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
“I’ve got my eye on the prize, I’ve got a job at hand January 31,” Joshua said.
“Boxing, you have to give yourself a 10 to eight-week window to get fit, and unfortunately my one’s come over Christmas
“I can’t really slacken at the moment, because my next opponent is quite tasty, he’s prepared to go the rounds.
“He’s very confident, he has a history of beating up and coming Olympians, and unfortunately I’m one of these guys as well.
“I’m on a journey, I’m on a course, a destination, and Kevin Johnson is a hurdle in the way.”
Boxing fans throughout the world and pay per head bookmaking companies are very eager to see this clash, and wonder if Joshua will live up to his words and successfully take out Johnson. Whatever happens in the ring is yet to be seen, and the fans are sure that they’ll be in for plenty of entertainment.
