Garry Monk wants to see Gomis score more goals

Manager Garry Monk-Bafetimbi GomisManager Garry Monk and many online bookmaking agents would like to see Bafetimbi Gomis hit the back of the net more regularly after scoring a double when Swansea City beat the Tranmere Rovers 6-2.

The French striker made an amazing performance as Swansea were able to secure a place in the FA Cup’s fourth round on Saturday at Prenton Park.

The 29-year-old’s first goal was scored in the game’s 77th minute, making it to 5-1 with a very nice finish from within the penalty area before injury time, when he finished the scoring.

Now Gomis scored four times this term in all competitions, but in the Premier League he only found the net on one occasion, and the manager wants to see him score even more. .

“Strikers thrive on goals,” said Monk.

“Bafe is a quality striker, I’ve said that all along. It was a good performance from him and hopefully he takes that into this run of games coming up.

“He has shown glimpses of what he can do but the goals will do him good.”

And the team’s fans fully agree with the manager.

There are some experts who thought that the match would have ended up as an upset in the FA Cup, but Swansea never seemed to be threatened by their opponents in the League Two, even though nine line-up changes were made by the manager from the one that had a 1-1 draw on New Year’s Day when they took on QPR.

Monk was also delighted with the team’s professionalism, and so were many fans.

“They should be very proud of themselves,” he added. “There is a lot of players who haven’t had much game time this season, but they all showed their quality and as a manager that is what you want from your squad.

“I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. It wasn’t the greatest of pitches, but we scored some good goals and it was a confident display.

“You could see from our attitude how much we wanted to win the game. From the off we set out our stall and showed great desire.

“Some of the players in the dressing room have already experienced what it is like to win a cup and how special it can be.”

Swansea’s fans saw a great display made by Gomis, and online bookmaking agents are confident that he’ll be able to improve much more in the game.
