Gus Poyet, head coach for Sunderland, praised the positive effect that striker Jermain Defoe had on the squad after the player scored for the second time in two games, when they faced Swansea City on Saturday and had a draw of 1-1 at the Liberty Stadium. Sportsbook software services also saw an exceptional performance by the player once again, and could see that the fans were very pleased.
In January, the striker made a move to the Stadium of Light from Toronto, MLS team, and in the Premiere League he started his spell with Sunderland when the team beat Burnley 2-0 in a meeting last weekend.
Before half-time, the player was again able to score with a very nice finish for 18 yards.
A header by Ki Sung-yueng on the second half gave a goal to Swansea, but Sunderland’s manager believes that the club’s confidence went up with Defoe in the club.
“With Jermain we are a different team,” said the manager.
“When you have a player you know is sooner or later going to score, it makes the rest of the team believe that they have a chance to win football games so it’s a pleasure to have him.”
The player had great comeback even though it was three months since he last hit the pitch before last month’s debut for Sunderland when they faced Tottenham.
Poyet said that he was planning to give the striker a rest at some point after four starts in a row, but would like to use his services while he’s in his best condition.
“I’ve been killing myself thinking do I need to give him a rest because he didn’t play, but I’m sorry Jermain I can’t – I need him to play,” added the manager.
“He was out when he finished the league [MLS] and he was training on his own and he came and we threw him in against Spurs.
“The idea is to make sure you don’t take a big risk but make sure you use him wisely. But you can’t let games go past and not play Jermain Defoe. I’m glad we used him and he scored, it means the decision was good for everyone.”
Defoe’s fans know very well what a talented player the England international is, and are confident that he’ll help Sunderland even more. Sportsbook software services see a player on the rise, and will closely monitor his progress in the sport.
